Green Mountain Ceramics has been in business for 20 years and our shop is located in our home in Richmond. Our gift shop contains finished products for sale, including hand painted pieces, and our shelves are filled with bisque. We also offer paints, glazes and supplies. We have approximately 6,000 molds from which to choose.
Our product is fired in two electronic kilns, and our dishware is lead free, oven, microwave and dishwasher safe. Our hand painted outdoor garden statuary is sealed against the weather.
You may be interested in how our dishware is made. The liquid clay, called "slip" is mixed in a "pouring machine". This mixture is then poured into a mold. The slip dries to a particular thickness and the excess is poured off. The piece is taken out of the mold - it is now called "greenware". It is cleaned by making it smooth, and then fired at 2000 degrees. It turns white and is now called "bisque" and is ready to paint or glaze. Three coats of glaze are applied to the piece. It is fired again at 1800 degrees. A decal, made especially for ceramics, is then applied to the dish. It is fired a third time at 1600 degrees so that the decal is melted into the glaze and becomes a permanent part of the dishware.
As you will see from this website, we can put any pattern decal on any piece and special orders are always welcome.
We look forward to doing business with you.
